Team USA continues its preparation for a run at a fifth straight gold medal in men's basketball ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, the team narrowly avoided a major upset on Saturday against South Sudan, coming from behind to win 101-98.
South Sudan built a 16-point lead in the first half and held a 58-44 advantage at halftime. However, Team USA stormed back with a massive third quarter, outscoring South Sudan 32-19 to take a 76-77 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Team USA held on to win the game in the fourth quarter, with LeBron James' layup with 8 seconds left proving to be the go-ahead basket. James finished with a team-high 22 points, while Jayson Tatum added 19 points and Kevin Durant had 18.
The win was a much-needed one for Team USA, which is looking to prove that it is still the dominant force in international basketball. The team will continue its preparation for the Olympics with a game against Spain on Monday.
